When you think of a MINI Cooper, you normally think of a pint-sized car ideal for tight street parking. What you don’t think of is an off-road vehicle ready to carve up some sand dunes. That will change once you lay eyes on the MINI John Cooper Works Rally, a buggy built for the Dakar Rally 2018. Retooled, the all-wheel drive ride is ready to best its sixth place finish from last year when the opening stage kicks off on January 6, 2018. The dune buggy is powered by a 6-cylinder diesel engine that is aided by a turbo system based on BMW’s TwinPower Turbo, so, yeah, it’s pretty quick—even on sand. Carbon fiber and Kevlar are found throughout, offering protection to the driver. If there are any parking challenges for some odd reason, we imagine the MINI will crush those as well.
