The V12-powered Maserati MC12 supercar from 2004 became one of the finest supercar legends based on its performance and its very limited run of 62 cars (50 road-going versions, and 12 Corsa racing versions). Now, for the first time in 16 years, the Trident brand brings a halo car to the market. This time, it’s called the MC20, and rather than being based on a Ferrari (like the MC12 and its Ferrari Enzo derivation), it’s pretty much all Maserati. The car’s mid-mounted twin-turbocharged, 3.0-liter V6 is good for 621 horsepower. It’s mated to a dual-clutch transmission linked to the rear wheels. What’s more, the car only weighs 3,306 pounds (six pounds more than the MC12) thanks to a carbon-fiber monocoque chassis and other lightweight components. 0-60 will take less than 2.9 seconds, and the MC20 will top out at 202 mph. While it might be less dramatic in appearance than its big-winged MC12 brother (but it still gets butterfly doors), the car will be even more driver-focused and track-capable than the MC12 was. Pricing will start at $210,000 and the car will go on sale in the fall of 2021.
