Lightyear One Solar Car

Looking like the love child of a Volkswagen XL1 and a Tesla Model S, the Lightyear One bests them both by providing pure solar power in a long-range prototype vehicle. One of the members of Solar Team Eindhoven, who won the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge in 2013, 2015, and 2017, founded the Lightyear company using knowledge gained from the Challenges to create the 450-mile range wonder. Solar cells span the entire hood and roof of the Lightyear One, which keeps charging the battery even after it’s been juiced up in the confines of a garage. The car attains 250 miles of charging overnight from a regular socket but can also benefit from fast charging. Lightyear promises about 248 miles of range in winter while driving at highway speeds with the heat on, while ideal conditions can extract up to 500 miles. The company plans to build 500 units and plans delivery of the vehicles starting in 2021.
