George Woodman ‘Wild Horse’

George Woodman is a garage and atelier in the city of Biarritz in Southwestern France that puts out a few bikes a year that are all built with some amount of wood. The latest is a 1972 Honda SS50 Moped fittingly named “Wild Horse” on account of all the upgrades the bike received in the build process. The original 49 cc engine was swapped out for a “mad powerful dirt engine”—a 190cc Zongshen 5 gear that was prepared by Stomp. This upgrade alone kicks it up 22 horsepower, which might not seem like a lot until you factor in the modified frame that creates a wheelbase of less than 48”. Keeping what Bike EXIF described as “a very lively ride” on the road is possible thanks to an all new suspension, upgraded wheels and disc brakes. As with all things George Woodman Garage, it wouldn’t be complete without signature wooden elements like the wooden seat base and front plate.
