The GM Buick marquee is not a brand we discuss all that often because they’re generally relegated to the production of safe, luxury vehicles. But the concepts, oh the concepts. Following in the footsteps of previous concept classics like the Buick Avista is the recently unveiled Buick Electra–billed as “the electric vehicle of the future.” Honestly, after reading the specs list, if they can deliver on half of these things it really is the vehicle of the future. 400+ miles on a single charge. Four butterfly doors that even Marty McFly would appreciate–and a “hidden floating skateboard” camouflaged under the rear bumper for added nostalgia. The latest GM electric propulsion systems and Ultium battery systems that get you, in addition to the previously mentioned 400+ mile range, a 0-62 mph time of just over 4 seconds and 583 hp from the dual-electric-motor drivetrain. Then you add all the complementary and futuristic tech like curved screens, LED lamps, illuminated grill, retractable steering wheel and facial recognition for the perfect 22nd century vehicle. Unfortunately, the Buick Electra Concept is nothing more than a fever dream at this point. If and when it does get produced, it’s likely to hit the Chinese market first, so there’s going to be an even longer wait for it to hit stateside.
