Don’t even pretend that you haven’t cooked yourself a meal and eaten it right out of the pan at least once in your life. It might have been a pot of mac n’ cheese back in the college days, but it happened. the JIU pan is a lot like that except the entire experience is a whole lot more classy. The collaborative project between the Fujita Metal Co. out of Osaka and the small design office TENT out of Tokyo, JIU is a high quality cast iron dish designed to be used for both the making and eating of food. The linchpin of the design is the wooden handle designed to easily clamp onto and be removed from the dish with one hand. Put it on when you want to cook. Take it off when you want to eat. If you’ve ever spent any amount of time cooking with a cast iron skillet you know how hot they can get, so you’re going to want to make sure to set it on something and be careful when you’re diving into a meal. The JIU frying pan comes in two different cooking area sizes (the lip around the edges that connects to the handle doesn’t count): 20cm (about 8″) and 16cm (just over 6″). Unfortunately, it’s only available in Japan at that moment.
