Sonos and IKEA Collaborate on New Picture Frame Wi-Fi Speaker

Sonos and IKEA Collaborate on New Picture Frame Wi-Fi Speaker

Sonos continues to be one of the most exciting brands in the home audio space. Not only have they led the pack in terms of audio quality and functionality, but their experiments in interior design and home goods has been fascinating. Their latest is yet another collaboration with Ikea which combines a Wi-Fi speaker with displayable art.

The SYMFONISK picture frame/wall art is another unique example of Sonos and Ikea’s desire to integrate audio with living spaces. Unfortunately, it doesn’t function as a fully custom picture frame; users can choose from several art prints to hang over the speakers hidden within but they can’t sub in their own. We’d love to see this idea brought to a fully custom frame but for now, the Wi-Fi speaker meets art piece is an innovative place to start.

Users will be able to control the speakers, which can be connected to an existing Sonos setup, through the Sonos app or with controls on the back of the frame. Impressively, Sonos managed to build a speaker that was thin enough to fit behind an art print but powerful enough to fill a room.

The art print Wi-Fi speaker was the only addition to IKEA’s SYMFONISK line but many expect further collaborations from Sonos and the Swedish furniture company. The speaker will be available for purchase starting July 15th for $199.
