On the short of Belgium’s Leie river you’ll find Residence VDB, an opulent, absurd and downright breathtaking mansion that would be at home on the cover of any established architecture magazine while still being crazy enough to be featured on MTV Cribs. Designed by Govaert & Vanhoutte Architects, Residence VDB effortlessly blends geometric concrete construction and floor to ceiling windows in a way that makes the entire property feel like Mies van der Rohe was contracted by a super villain to build a lair. The first floor features all the “day functions” like the pool, terrace and pool house, while the second floor houses the master bed and bath with a private roof deck along with two guest quarters with separate baths. Marvelous views of the river abound, but the real magic happens underground. One quick trip down the stairs or on the car elevator and you’ll find yourself inside what is essentially a European night club complete with full bar in front of a pool viewing window, DJ booth, lounge benches, built-in cigar cabinet and a place to park all those exotic rides you only take out on weekends. As far as we can tell, it’s not for sale or rent, but we’re convinced the price tag would be out of our budget anyway.
