Situated on an open piece of property in Agueda, Portugal, that didn’t have much in the way of surroundings that would influence the design, this private garage from Paulo Martins is nicer than most city apartments. The private garage includes four large overhead doors to accommodate plenty of fine examples of automotive excellence, with a section off to one side for two-wheeled vehicles and plenty of storage and display areas for gear, art and tools. From the outside, the entire structure looks like a modernized version of a European service station that was converted to a bunker, but inside it’s nothing but bright light, sleek interior and an almost clean room feel. As told by the architect, “a very unique garage was born, a garage that is more like a gallery where the cars share the space with the desire to observe and study, where the hum of running motors blends with the sound system of a Porsche, giving us the opportunity to listen to great music as we sit and muse on the next journey we will be taking, sitting on an exciting Famel.” We’d probably skip the house that’s going to go on the property and just put a bed in the garage.
