Quite a few truly impressive products have come out of the Porsche Design Studio, founded by Professor Ferdinand Alexander Porsche (grandson of the Porsche founder and the original designer of the 911). Studio F. A. Porsche recently teamed up with Japanese electronics giant Panasonic to create something more unusual than any of their previous creations—a washing machine. The Panasonic ALPHA washing machine combines the commitments to technology, reliability, functionality and quality that both brands share to create an appliance with a focus on design that’s unparalleled. The door automatically pops out about an inch after a load is complete for better ventilation. A TFT display, rotary knob and single on/off button reduce the clutter that you’d normally find on the control area of a similar product. And, of course, it’s decked out in brushed stainless for that high-end look and feel. Unfortunately, the Panasonic ALPHA washing machine was developed exclusively for the Chinese market. We can only hope it makes its way to the rest of the world soon.
