Nendo’s Cutlery Hooks onto Walls and Cups

Japanese firm Nendo designs some of the most interesting household products. From the Kame Hybrid Carry-on to an umbrella that can stand on its own, each Nendo creation takes the mundane and utilitarian things you interact with on a regular basis and makes them beautiful. Their new skeleton cutlery is the perfect example of the approach. Created for design label valerie_objects as part of “the cutlery project” that will be presented at Maison & Objet, Nendo rethought the spoon, fork and knife by cutting out material until the overall form was reduced to the absolute minimum while still retaining functionality. They like to describe it as transforming them into the “outline of the cutlery like the image of a skeleton reflected in an X-ray,” hence the name. This design also allows each teaspoon, spoon, fork and knife to easily hang on the wall or over the edge of a cup. Each piece in the collection is PVD-coated in one of four different colors: silver, black, copper or gold. Unfortunately, as with all things Nendo, it looks like it’s only going to be available in Japan for now.
