When we think of a tree house, we think of a simple, boxy structure that our old man helped us build when we were kids. What we don’t think of is something like this. Employees of Jacobschang Architecture built this 360-square-foot “tree house” in the forest in Sullivan County, New York, on a budget of $20k. As you can see, the result is nothing short of stunning. The bulk of the house appears to hover off the ground, as the architects used the surrounding trees as support, as you do with a tree house. The large glass windows give you an incredible view of the forest around you and the exterior is coated in Scandinavian pine-tar to fight against whatever the cold months have in store. We’d gladly book this for a little escape from the world.
