These Fender Amps are Made from Wood Leftover from Building the U.S.S. Constitution

Fender has spent more than a half century establishing themselves as one of the premier producers of stringed instruments and amplifiers, but these Fender Custom Shop “Old Ironside” Amps will blow you out of the water. In case you’re not familiar with “Old Ironsides,” that’s the nickname bestowed upon the world’s oldest commissioned warship, the U.S.S. Constitution. In 2011, construction crews in Boston’s former Charleston Naval Yard unearthed a stockpile of centuries-old oak beams used in tall ship construction and repair. You see where this is going. Fender acquired a small amount of that wood and turned it over to Master Builder Shawn Greene to create the two most stunning guitar amps we’ve ever seen. Two tube amps, one based on the classic ’57 Pro and one on the ’57 Champ, were made out of the oak and decked out in several nautical touches like a dock-cleat handle, brass accents and a hand-rubbed oil finish. Both amps will be available at the NAMM Show in Anaheim, California.
