Everyone has a favorite artist that, for one reason or another, they never got to see in concert. David Bowie is ours. The last Bowie concert (not his last life performance) was almost fifteen years ago, but his music is just as powerful today as when it was originally recorded. We’ll never get to see him in concert, but artist and designer Todd Alcott is making it possible to inject a little more Bowie into our lives with pulp fiction cover mashups based on Bowie songs. Whether it’s a vintage comic book, magazine or book cover, Bowie’s most popular works get a retro treatment complete with song titles, Easter eggs and interesting imagery. “Space Oddity” gets a 1950s style sci-fi comic treatment with Ziggy Stardust and Bowie’s wife Angela in old school space suits. “Under Pressure” is a deep sea adventure novel with a giant squid arm. There are also prints for “Life on Mars?”, “Starman”, “Changes” and a few others. Each one of the 9 prints is printed on heavy, glossy, archival-quality paper in a number of easily framed sizes.
