Banksy, always one to make a statement, pulled off quite the buzzed-about move this past Friday. Girl With Balloon, a famous piece from the mysterious artist that depicted a little girl holding a heart-shaped balloon, sold at Sotheby’s in London for a cool $1.4 million. But it wasn’t the sale that has people talking; it’s what came after. After the gavel sounded an alarm went off and the piece of art fell through a paper shredder embedded in the frame, leaving the work in numerous strips. We’re not sure where this puts the auction and whether the person who purchased the piece is still obligated to pay for it, though it could be argued that the work is not even more valuable because of this famous stunt.
