Started in Portland in 2009 by Steven Smith, a co-founder of Stash and tea shaman of Tazo renowned for his deep understanding of tea, Steven Smith Teamaker has always produced interesting flavors you’re not going to find anywhere else. Case in point: their limited edition teas that include a variant aged in brandy barrels and one in a whiskey barrel. Varietal No. 302 is Yaupon Brandy, a yaupon tea aged in a Stone Barn Brandyworks apple brandy barrel. Varietal No. 628 is Wuyi Whiskey, a black tea aged in a Westward Whiskey barrel to impart oak, caramelized sugar and whiskey notes. Head teamaker Tony Tellin describes it as “a tea for Ron Burgundy. Pairs well with mahogany furniture, leather bound books, etc.” This is a tea we can all drink to.
