When you think of great Scotch whisky, pricey single malts probably dance through your head. What doesn’t dance through your head are the bottles that line the shelves of your local Aldi grocery store. But maybe they should. Aldi’s Highland Black 8 Year Old Scotch Whisky took home top honors at the International Spirits Challenge 2018, besting hooch far more expensive. Oh yeah, we should mention Highland Black 8 Year Old Scotch Whisky retails for—wait for it—€12.99 (about $17)! A bottle costs less than our order at freakin’ Shake Shack. Okay, before you run to your local Aldi and clean the place out, we should mention that we don’t think Aldi stores in the States sell the hard stuff. We’ve seen beer and wine, but it’s our understanding that the hard liquor is only overseas. That said, a few bottles might be worth a plane ticket.
