Anytime something gets so big that soccer moms are into it, we can’t help but turn into quasi-hipster elitists. When every passenger on our flight was reading a copy of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo a few years back, our initial instinct was to shun it as mass crap. Only it wasn’t. The book by the late Stieg Larsson happened to contain one of the most interesting characters we’d ever encountered in Lisbeth Salander. The rawness of the Swedish adaptation set the bar high for David Fincher, Rooney Mara and Daniel Craig, but they ultimately produced a worthy flick we didn’t mind watching for two-and-a-half hours plus. Plus, back tattoos are hot, even if they’re on a tech goth chick.
