In this age of podcasting, everyone should have access to a high quality microphone. Not only that, but it should be something customized to recorder’s tastes. If those tastes are the straightforward microphones we’ve been using forever, that’s fine. But also know you could be podcasting into the back of a chrome skull, courtesy of Von Erickson Laboratories. The macabre microphone comes in three color schemes, bright chrome, dark chrome, and sating gun metal and the skull design leans more toward cartoon than anatomically correct. There are cracks along the cranium and the skull stretches a bit to accommodate its microphone, so don’t expect a real person’s head to resemble what Von Erickson has created here, if that puts you a bit more at ease with the idea. There’s also an interesting 50s variety show/90s goth mashup at work here, and it’s not an aesthetic we’d expect to work as well as it does.
