Invader Rubik’s Cube Mona Lisa

There’s no denying the fact that Leonardo da Vinci’s “Mona Lisa” is one of the most iconic paintings of all time. There’s also no denying the fact that the Rubik’s Cube is one of the most iconic puzzle toys of all time. French street artist Invader decided to combine the two cultural touchstones by constructing his own version of the most famous painting of all time with a combination of 330 Rubik’s Cubes. The piece is a mosaic–it’s made out of Rubik’s Cubes, what else were you expecting–that was originally constructed in 2005 and measures roughly 54″ x 37″ x 3″ in size. If you’re worried about authenticity, Rubik Mona Lisa is signed and countersigned and will be for sale during a celebration of Leonardo da Vinci at the Louvre Museum. The Invader Rubik Mona Lisa is expected to bring in up to $165,000 when it gets auctioned off during Artcurial’s Urban & Pop Contemporary sale on February 23rd.
