The Coolest Food and Drink Trends of 2025

For 2025, we’re already seeing the rise of perhaps the most complex concept of all: simplicity.

Every day, a new gadget, recipe, ingredient, or soda comes up on my Instagram reels or in one of the (many) newsletters I subscribe to. It’s hard to keep track, and it’s tempting to try them all. But, as someone who spent their early career working in food PR and marketing, I know some are better than others, and I’m always curious to see what piques the interest of trusted chefs and tastemakers.

For 2025, we’re already seeing the rise of perhaps the most complex concept of all: simplicity. People are tired of buying things they only use once; they’re tired of eating subpar meals and paying too much for dining out for things they should be able to make at home. Especially as restaurant and food prices continue to rise, it seems like everyone is hyper-focused on quality over quantity.

At the same time, there’s no slowing the trends we’ve been seeing for a while. Instead, they’re being refined. We’re seeing continual growth in the N/A beverage sector. Other than expanding into complicated botanical creations, makers are narrowing their focus, creating single-origin products that are nearly as good as the boozy stuff. We’re also seeing the integration of AI in the kitchen. This is to be expected, but it’s going beyond the promises in Smart House and into appliances you didn’t even know could be improved. Finally, farm-to-table has always been in, but now people are realizing that the table can be the one in their very own kitchen.

Here are three standout trends we expect to dominate your plates and glasses this year.

N/A Wine Levels Up

Mastering alcohol-free wine is tricky. But new makers with experience in traditional winemaking methods and interests in additive-free wine production have begun experimenting in the non-alcoholic space, resulting in wines that are good enough to serve in restaurants.

Most of these bottles begin the way any wine does, by picking, fermenting, and aging the grapes from renowned wine regions. Then, when the wine is ready, they use advanced specialized technology like BevZero’s spinning cone technology and other vacuum distillation processes that preserve the flavor while extracting the alcohol. All the joys of a great glass of wine and none of the next-day woes? What’s not to like?

Oddbird

Old-world traditions meet new-world technology at Oddbird, a Swedish company harvesting grape varietals across Europe to create complex bottles, including sparkling and organic varieties. With an emphasis on outstanding flavor and complementarity with food, these winemakers are challenging the notion that non-drinkers are outliers from the norm in the culinary world.

Smarter Kitchen Gadgets

Tech in the kitchen has been on the rise for some time. I’ve written about companies like Mill before, who are using new tech to transform the way we cook and clean. So, it was only a matter of time before smart-technology and AI crept into the kitchen, too. The newest innovative applications are all about ramping up the efficiency of your everyday touchpoints—like coffee, ice, and beverages.

Smart appliances in the kitchen don’t mean a toaster that talks to you. (Not yet, anyway!) Instead, it means appliances you can control via your smartphone, even when you’re out of the house. This makes things like entertaining, grocery shopping, and general prep and planning that much easier.

Smarter appliances also mean more personalization. Most of these new gadgets have the option for multiple settings, so everyone in the house can get things the way they like. They fit into your life, not the other way around. This is also apparent in their design. Just as they’re efficient in tech, they’re efficient in space, acting as additional pieces of decor instead of just clutter you want to hide in your kitchen cabinets.

Farm to Your Table

Recalls, TikTok video exposés, and chaos–it’s never been more terrifying to go to the grocery store. It feels like we know more about where our food comes from than ever before, and that isn’t always a good thing. Once you realize the journey that avocado had to take before it landed on the grocery store shelf, you begin to taste it too…

But really, farm-to-table has been a growing movement for decades, and it’s often thought of as one for the culinary elite who dine out frequently and go to the farmers market at 11 AM on a Wednesday. The fact is, few of us can go to the weekday farm stand, and most don’t even have that fresh farm stand to go to.

Farmers across America are realizing that there’s an easier way to get their produce onto your plate — ship it to you. It’s no lift to you as the consumer, and it means that farmers have a more steady demand, which makes for a healthier local food economy. Not to mention, you can taste the difference, and you’ll want to use every last bit.

After all, it’s always a good time for avocado toast or a tasty bowl of homemade guac. You can buy a one-off box, or set up an ongoing subscription.
