A good air purifier can cost hundreds of dollars (but the air is free), so when we got wind of the new Förnuftig Air Purifier from Ikea, we were blown away by its $55 asking price, as well as its wonderful design. The Förnuftig, which means “sensible” in Swedish, uses a multistage filtration system that includes a prefilter that removes large particles from the air, a secondary filter traps particles as small as 2.5 microns, and a third filter removes gaseous pollutants and unwanted odors from cooking or smoking. The lack of any smart features keeps the price down, but the control knob keeps operation simple. The Förnuftig is for smaller spaces up 108 square feet, and it’s sized to match at a mere 18 x 12 x 4 inches. You can hang it on a wall or use the included stand and handle for portability.
