More than a decade ago, BrewDog and Schorschbräu entered into an international “Strongest Beer” ABV arm’s race to determine who could brew the world’s strongest beer. Sam Adams Utopias, Goose Island Bourbon County Brand Stout and plenty of other competitors came to collect the title, but none could compete with the sheer fire water beer the original brands were concocting. So the two storied brands decided to team up and create “Strength in Numbers,” a 57.8% beer that hits that colossal ABV through traditional eisbock method–which means freezing the beer, removing ice and then re-blending–and a combination of Belgian golden ale that’s been aging in whisky casks for 10 years. Look. If we’re being honest, we have no idea how these mad beer scientists turned daily water cooler beers into something more potent than most Pappies or Barrel Proof whiskies, but we appreciate their dedication the craft–and to getting us fucked up–with a single, tiny bottle of beer.
