They might have originally been named for an American tennis player from a handful of decades ago, but Chucks have since been appropriated by who knows how many different groups since then. Now, Converse Renew is taking the sneaker we know and love and re-imagining it with modern construction focused on sustainability. As they say, “Converse Renew Canvas crafts the iconic upper of the shoe from 100% recycled polyester that came from used plastic bottles. Touch it, feel it, wear it – we bet you won’t know the difference. Except that you’ll look good – and feel good – knowing you’re giving waste a second life.” The Chuck 70 Renew Canvas is crafted from 100% recycled polyester from used plastic bottles, which creates an all together new kick that’s built with sustainability in mind without sacrificing the iconic style or premium feel of the original. The Converse Renew collection of Chuck Taylors is also going to include sneakers made with upcycled denim from hand-selected jeans and a blend of 40% recycled cotton canvas scraps combined with new yarn in the upcoming releases.
