Despite the fact they’ve been around for almost three-quarters of a century, Asics remains one of those “if you know you know” sneaker brands that consistently puts out stylish, quality work under the radar. While they’re no longer officially the Onitsuka Tiger brand–which is probably the name you’re familiar with–they’re still putting out similar models while also reviving classics like the modern iteration of the GT-II with its 80’s GEL tech like you see here. Originally released in the 1980s, Asics’ GEL technology combined a shock-absorbing material–allegedly first used in space shuttles–with a performance sneaker skeleton to create the ideal pair of shoes for the performance-obsessed runner looking to reduce impact over long runs. Now, that technology is back in a line of almost a dozen different Asics GT-II sneakers in honor of the 35th anniversary of the original with the same iconic shape and external heel clip, along with suede overlays, breathable mesh underlays, heritage details, and a number of new colorways.
