iOS:
Pacer
Most of the people crammed into gyms this time of year are not actually getting a sufficient workout. Since mindlessly walking on a treadmill for 20 minutes isn’t exactly pushing yourself, Pacer is here to help. The app is a combination workout timer and activity tracker that makes your fitness goals a little easier to visualize. The timers guide you through your warm up, some interval training, and a cool down period, and your workout history will be tracked so you can monitor your progress and make changes when needed. If you want to get serious about your health in 2014, it’s a good sidekick. iOS
YourMechanic
YourMechanic, the service that connects you to local mechanics who will come to you to fix your auto issues, finally got the app treatment recently. The free app allows you to input your location along with the make, model, year, and issue of your ride and quickly get your problems taken care of. The Diagnostic Wizard assists you in pinpointing the issue your car is having and then allows you to easily get a quote on the repairs. After your car gets worked on, the mechanic leaves info and voice notes through the app for you and your card gets billed. The only drawback is the service area at the current time is small, but with plenty of deep-pocketed investors, YourMechanic has a bright future. iOS
Vowch
It is becoming more and more evident that social media is primarily being used so we can define ourselves. We talk about what we like, retweet what interests us, and share things that resonate with us in some way. Vowch takes this idea to the next obvious level. It recommends everything from songs to sites, restaurants and more based on your likes. Follow friends and tastemakers to see what they’re into and start sharing the things you dig complete with pictures, video, and more. In the world of self-promotion, it’s the clear next step. iOS
Jelly
Any new app that is put out by one of the cofounders of Twitter is worth checking out. The idea behind Jelly is to tap into all those social connections you’ve made over the last few years and use them to help you answer questions you might have. Stumble across an interesting piece of street art? Snap a picture and see if anyone knows if it’s a Banksy or not. By doing this, the app is putting more of an emphasis on knowledge and experience rather than plain information. Whether it takes off or not we’ll have to see, but it definitely has the right people behind it. iOS
One Today
Spending time on your smartphone is not all time-wasting games and status updates, with One Today it is also a chance to do some good. Each day you discover a new nonprofit project that could use your support. The app makes it easy to donate to a cause and then spread the word. So download it and take a few seconds away from your Twitter feed to do something worthwhile. iOS
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
Forget simple games that are more like petty time-wasters, with Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, you’re getting a sprawling adventure. The old Playstation 2 game gets revamped for your mobile device but doesn’t lose as much as you’d expect it would. If you want a game you can really get into, the $7 price tag isn’t too steep. Now lets go jack cars and find hookers! iOS
Eidetic
It’s no use having the perfect quote in mind or what you think is the right stat if you are about to butcher it like a guy with a dull knife. Eidetic uses spaced repetition (a studying method where intervals of time between reviewing information are spaced out) to make sure you never forget facts, phone numbers, quotes, and more. Since we can’t remember what we ate for dinner last night, it’s probably worth putting on our phone. Just do it now before you forget. iOS
Life Graphy
Life Graphy is the task organizing app made with the resolutioner in mind. The clean interface allows you to visualize all your data and goals. It’s ideal for someone looking to revamp their life in 2014. Make sure you get to the gym enough, eat the right foods often enough, and, perhaps, cut down just a tad on the post-work beers. iOS

VSCO Cam
VSCO Cam is the photography app of choice for many iPhone users. It’s finally out of beta for Android and worth the download for sure. Few apps give you so much control of your images and your ability to edit them. Once you get used to it, you won’t turn back to whatever other camera app you had installed. Google Play
One Today
Spending time on your smartphone is not all time-wasting games and status updates, with One Today it is also a chance to do some good. Cover
Cover will replace your boring, good-for-nothing lock screen with a more dynamic option. Cover learns which apps you need and when you need them and lets you easily access and switch between them. Want certain apps for your morning commute? Covered. Want to check all your social media accounts after a long day? Covered again. Google Play
Picklor
With Picklor, you can use your Android phone as an advanced color detection device. Snap and save images of different shades you come across and the app will give you info about the color and allow you to use it as wallpaper or save and search through your own color database. Even if you aren’t matching your shoes to your handbag, it’s going to be an app that comes in handy. Google Play

12Hours
Simple and brilliant. Many great apps share those characteristics and we can safely say that 12Hours does as well. The app displays an analog clock on your Android device, only it does so with your calendar events included. It cleanly displays the times of those events so you can easily see your day’s activities when you open your phone. Simple but needed. Google Play
