October 15, 2006 marked the end of an era in the music world. When Patti Smith finished her concert that evening, it was the conclusion of over three decades of live performances at CBGB. But you can’t really kill the mentality that CBGB was built on (even though it was originally named for Country, BlueGrass and Blues) because it’s back in 2012 for CBGB Festival. This weekend, 40 venues in NYC will host 300 bands to honor the CBGB legacy. You might not be able to piss in the famous urinals anymore, but CBGB is best remembered through music.
