Owen Freeman’s Illustrations

Owen Freeman’s illustrations are the kind of art that’s more pleasing to look at than the images that inspired them. He uses rich, saturated colors and digital painting over stark ink sketches create a surreal depiction of recognizable people and places. They’re the kind of art you end up staring at without being able to really say why. His subjects range from popular culture (Treme, Frank Sinatra, Eminem) to more abstract pieces inspired by famous short stories and fiction pieces. We’re guessing he was the kid who drew incredibly expressive portraits in the margins of his mathbook when we were all doodling simple geometric shapes. Circles, for instance. At the time we hated him for his talents, but we can live with it now considering the outcome.
