In case you haven’t been paying attention to the comings and goings on Hodinkee in the past few years, John Mayer–in addition to being an international heartthrob and renowned singer / songwriter–is a huge watch fanatic that reveres quality timepieces as much as much itself. Unlike some of his contemporaries and their sideprojects, his love of watches never gets anywhere close to snobbery because he loves the affordable as much as the bespoke. Case in point–the John Mayer Designed Casio G-Shock Ref. 6900 Watch you see here. This is Mayer’s first watch collaboration and it’s designed to be a unifying force that combines aspects of Mayer’s childhood Casiotone SK-5 keyboard with the G-Shock watches he’s grown fond of recently. As Mayer tells it, “I had already been pretty deep into wearing the ‘Mudmaster’ models, and something felt cosmically right about a G-SHOCK being the first watch collab I’ve ever done. Casio keyboards came to mind as much as the watches did. Then I remembered how important the Casiotone SK-5 was in my life, and it got exciting really fast. It’s the perfect bridge between my double life as a musician and a watch enthusiast.” Even without the John Mayer name on it, it’s a svelte, well-built watch with just the right amount of form, function and color-popping accents to make us all want to wear it everyday.
