1964 Pontiac Banshee XP-333 Coupe

The resemblance between this singular Pontiac Banshee XP-333 and the C2 Corvette isn’t coincidental. In 1964, General Motors need a new vehicle to fight against the rising tide of the Ford Mustang pony car. None other than John DeLorean (in his pre-DeLorean DMC-12 era) created this Banshee to go mano-a-mano with the Mustang, but it was never to be since GM didn’t want to cannibalize sales of the Corvette. But the Banshee, as you can see, gave some of its curvaceous styling cues to the new Corvette. This 1-of-1 Banshee is now up for sale, and it really is a special piece of automotive history. The fastback, rear-wheel drive Banshee has 1,498 miles on the odo, and it looks pristine with silver paint over a red interior. It’s powered by a 6-cylinder single overhead cam engine mated to a four-speed manual transmission. The weirdest part is the fact that it’s not being sold by a famed auction house like Bonhams or Barrett-Jackson. Instead, a Kia dealership in Connecticut has it. Even more, the $750,000 asking price just seems like a bargain for the only version ever built.
