We still maintain our stance that the 2017 Aston Martin Vantage is absolutely bonkers, but even tech-obsessed petrolheads will agree that the modern accoutrements and performance specs can’t hold a candle to the likes of this 1977 Aston Martin V8 Vantage ‘Bolt-On Fliptail’ that’s going to auction. Affectionately dubbed “Britain’s first supercar,” this 1977 Aston Martin V8 Vantage came with a 390hp V8 engine capable of a top speed of 170mph and a 0-60 time of just over 5 seconds. It was the fastest production car of the era, and those specs remain nothing to slouch at these days. But even more than that, it had the style and panache of the Pony cars of the decade from our neck of the world, so it would easily be at home in the collection of someone traditionally more enthused with bowties and blue ovals. As if all that wasn’t enough, this is a numbers matching car with factory five-speed and one of the first 16 ‘Bolt-On Fliptail’ Vantages ever produced, so it’s even more rare than most of its other counterparts. The 1977 Aston Martin V8 Vantage ‘Bolt-On Fliptail’ will roll across the block during RM Sotheby’s Palm Beach auction from March 20 – 21, 2020.
