Today would have been Anthony Bourdain’s 63rd birthday. In honor of Bourdain, his birthday, and his passing a little over a year ago, his longtime friends and celebrity chefs Eric Ripert and José Andrés (you’ve seen them both on Bourdain’s shows before even if the names don’t sound familiar) have declared today Bourdain Day. Everyone has chosen to turn today into a celebration of his life and everything he stood for. Andrés told Esquire, “I hope that this is a place that many people will go, will enjoy life, will have a drink. They will cook, they will go to a food truck. They will go to [a] picnic. They will go to [a] street vendor. A hot dog, a fancy restaurant, whatever. And they will toast Tony and wish, ‘Happy Bourdain Day’ on Instagram, on [the] internet, on Twitter. That’s it.” There will be plenty of toasting from all of us at Cool Material, but we’re also going to spend some of the day revisiting features like Our 10 Favorite Episodes of Anthony Bourdain’s TV Shows and How to Travel Like Anthony Bourdain Did. However you choose to spend the day, share what you’re doing with the hashtag #BourdainDay to participate in the celebration. Happy Birthday, Tony.
