All it takes is two “duh nuhs” from the theme song of Jaws to invoke terror in most of us. But not Euan Rannachan, professional photographer and all around shark aficionado. While cage diving around Mexico’s Guadalupe Island, Rannachan had the opportunity, skill and cajones to capture a great white shark doing its best rendition of the iconic movie poster from Jaws. For Rannachan, it’s not just about re-creating the shot that shark photographers have been trying to get for years, it’s also about the majesty and love for these incredible animals. As Rannachan tells it, “Hollywood portrays sharks as dangerous and terrifying because that sells tickets. It’s my goal to show the other side of these apex predators through my photos and videos. A lot of people’s reaction is fear, but also intrigue. I hope my images convey just how beautiful white sharks can be. I always tell people it’s an experience of a lifetime and I feel really honored and blessed to be able to do it each year.” Check out more of his amazing work on his site BEASHARK (seriously).
