Ressence hasn’t been around for long, but it’s made some pretty big horological waves thanks to its revolutionary approaches to timekeeping. Their Type 2 just bowed as the brand’s first smartwatch. As much an execution of stunning modern design, Ressence builds in both traditional mechanical movement, as well as cutting-edge tech. This includes photovoltaic cells that automatically recharge the 36-battery life from solar energy and close behind micro-shutters when inactive. The watch will also power down when not in use after 12 hours and then come back to life with a tap on the e-crown, which can store two time zones. Toggle between the two with a simple tap, as well as update time with it or via the companion app. As with all Ressence timepieces, the Type 2 will cost you a pretty penny: $48,000 for the world’s coolest smartwatch.
