The Rolex you see here is officially the most expensive Submariner ever sold, after it moved for the eye-popping price of $1,068,500 yesterday at Christie’s, during the auction house’s Evening of Exceptional Watches. “Exceptional” is an apt word here, as this Sub looks little like most of the versions we’ve ever seen. That’s because the watch is outfitted with the incredibly rare “Explorer” dial, which features Arabic numerals at 3, 6, and 9. That’s only one rarity. On top of the Explorer dial, you’ll also notice that this Sub has the meters written first in the depth rating and in red, not white, something that’s also not common. These are the little things that drive collectors wild. Which is probably why this thing fetched more than the estimated sale price of $500,000–$1,000,000. Maybe one day, right?
