Sound quality remains one of the main reasons people turn to vinyl. It sure as hell isn’t convenience, right? Well, as early as next year, that sound quality is getting better. Rebeat Innovation, an Austrian-based startup, received millions in funding to help place the first HD vinyl record in stores next year. What is HD vinyl and what does it offer? Well, for starters, there’s less audio info lost in production, thanks to a process that involves turning audio into a 3D topographic map and then using a ceramic stamper to make sure every copy is perfect. What comes out of that are vinyl records with 30% more amplitude than current records, sound truer to the original performance, and 30% more playing time. HD vinyl is backward compatible, meaning you don’t need to buy a new, special record player to listen, and since each is produced using laser technology, there are no chemicals involved.
