Good hygiene is essential for every man, and not just because no one wants to go get a drink with a guy who smells like the inside of a trashcan on a summer evening. Keeping one’s hair combed, odor in check, nails clipped, and shoes shined is classic cool. Of all those activities, nail clipping is easily the worst. And since we can’t chew our nails off, since that’s somehow off-putting, we went out and gathered a few of our picks for the best nail clippers available to the modern man.
Zwilling Pour Homme Slim Line Folding Fingernail Clipper
The selling point for these bad boys is that they’re not only made from quality stainless steel, but also fold up to be no thicker than 1/8 of an inch. They’re beautiful, they’re elegant, and they easily slide into any pant pocket, overnight bag, or even briefcase. If you want quality without all the bells and whistles, this cutter is perfect.
$32EZ Grip Rotary Stainless Steel Sharp Blade Fingernail Toenail Nail Clipper, Trimmer, and Cutter
We love the design of the EZ Grip because it sits comfortably in your hand and offers a 360-degree pivot head. At only 3.5 inches long, it’s not too big, and folds up nice and compact to be taken anywhere you need to go. The only potential pitfall here is that the handles are made from plastic, but it’s perfect for those who want a big clipper that still makes for easy storage.
$10Keiby Citom Nail Clippers with 360-Degree Rotating Head
With a function nearly identical to the EZ Grips above, the Keiby Citom Nail Clippers are probably our favorite rig on this list because they have the same 360-degree rotating head, but an all stainless steel build—which means they’re sturdy and don’t risk cracking or breaking over time. All in all, these things are small, compact, and the blades are sharp and hard enough to tackle even the gnarliest of nails.
$10Klhip Ultimate Clipper
We know what you’re probably thinking. This is a 75-dollar pair of nail clippers. That’s way too much. But the truth is, these things are absolutely gorgeous. The Ultimate Clipper is branded as the world’s first ergonomically correct nail clipper, and Klhip claims their clipper is perfect because it offers increased control and leverage while you trim. We’re absolutely in love with the design, and the fact that it’s surgical grade stainless steel and comes with a handmade leather case. If you’re looking for efficiency, practicality, and an absolutely gorgeous design (and you don’t mind the price tag), these are a solid choice.
$80Swiss Army Victorinox Nail Clipper with File
When people talk about precision cutting tools, Victorinox is a brand that never gets left out of the conversation. Whether you’re looking for a quality EDC pocket knife, a beautiful piece of precision cutlery, or even a top-shelf toenail cutter, Victorinox should be a place you look. These nail clippers are sleek, compact, and made from quality stainless steel. Aside from the beautiful satin finish, the razor-sharp cutting edge, and a nice black leather carrying pouch, we appreciate the inclusion of a sturdy steel file to smooth out burs and bad edges.
$19Swiss Army Victorinox NailClip 580
Speaking of Victorinox, if you’re looking for a little more than just a sharp nail cutter, check out the NailClip 580. Aside from the simple and easy-to-use nail clipper, it also comes with a 1.75-inch blade, nail file, tweezers, toothpick, and a pair of tiny scissors. If you want to keep looking sharp anywhere you roam, the Victorinox NailClip580 is an excellent addition to your EDC, and fits perfectly on any key ring. Oh, and they come with Victorinox’s excellent warranty.
$24ACE For Men Fingernail Clipper
We were skeptical about these when we first saw them, but we decided to include them because they’re excellently designed, well built, and sturdy enough to handle anything. They also come apart in four different pieces, which makes cleaning quick and easy. The only thing we don’t like is the black paint—reviews note that it tends to chip and rub away after a few uses. But for the quality (and price), we can’t really complain. These little guys are great.
$8Green Bell Nail Clipper G-1008
We’d first heard about this set of clippers from Green Bell after reading a story by Jason Chen over at NYMag about how he’d accidentally discovered them in a Japanese airport. After he got home, he realized he loved them so much that it literally compelled him to immortalize his feelings in an article. Well, Jason, thanks for the tip. As promised, these clippers are excellent. Not just because they’re cheap as dirt, but because they’re sharp as anything we’ve ever seen, and the quality is outstanding. Like the Victorinox, it comes with a built-in file, and while it’s not the most compact cutter on the list, it’s small enough to go almost anywhere.
