Rob Penn is an adventuring author, journalist and TV presenter who’s ridden a bicycle most days of his adult life to the tune of over fifty countries on five continents. Penn’s latest book, The Man Who Made Things Out of Trees, tells the story of one man’s relationship with the ash tree. From tool handles to arrows, to wheels and bowls, we’ve created more items of varied use from ash than any other kind of wood, which is what Penn focuses on in the book. The book, which also includes eight pages of illustrations and has been translated into thirteen languages, reads like a love letter with purpose from man to Mother Nature and includes everything from the aforementioned ash wood tools to the urgent perils this treasured wood faces.
