The Novo Streetcar 1912, a Pocket Watch Made From Vintage Railroad Track

Looking for a unique, one-of-a-kind timepiece for a special event? Novo Watch crafts personalized watches from vintage memorabilia. In fact, Novo watches give a new life to forgotten detritus like cargo ships, railroad tracks, and more. The Type 02 Streetcar 1912, for instance, repurposes a trolley track from 1912 Lethbridge, Alberta into a handsome pocket watch.

“In 1912 the Lethbridge streetcar system was installed and ready for service in August,” Novo explains on its site. “As the popularity and affordability of gas-powered buses around the city started prepping to pave over some of the tracks, but eventually decided to cover them all in 1939. The war delayed this project but eventually, after years of facilitating downtown transportation, the tracks were covered and forgotten. Recently, a city project unearthed these tracks and what had been buried for decades was revealed giving us a look into the past and physical pieces of memorabilia.”

The result is a timepiece that is sure to turn heads. The manual movement is powered by ETA 6498-1 with Geneva Stripe finishing. The stainless steel case is 41mm and the dial features the 1912 railroad track. The hands are handmade from white wire giving the watch an industrial feel.

The Novo Streetcar 1912 is a one-of-one offering from the Alberta-based watch brand. It costs a pretty penny at nearly $2,000. But, as with most Novo watches, its story and ability to last a lifetime makes it a stylish accessory for just about any occasion.
