The Alpina Seastrong Gyre Automatic Watch Is Made From Recycled Ocean Plastic

The Seastrong line of diving timepieces is one of Swiss watchmaker Alpina’s best. Now, it pays direct homage to the oceans whose depths it plumbs by creating a version that uses a composite case material created from plastic ocean fishnets. Alpina partnered with Dutch microbrand Gyre to raise awareness of marine life pollutants by using 70 percent of the 44mm case from these “ghost” nets found in the Indian Ocean. It’s combined with fiberglass to increase resilience. Even the NATO straps are made from recycled plastic bottles. The dials come in three finishes that are inspired by the ocean, and the watch is dive ready with a unidirectional bezel, 300M depth rating, anti-reflective sapphire glass, and a Swiss automatic movement with 38-hour power reserve. The whole package makes a statement near and dear to both Alpina and Gyre about preserving our oceans for generations and returning it to a state of normalcy one step at a time.
