When you earn the nickname “The King of Cool,” the items you choose to own automatically get a sort of slick seal of approval. If The King of Cool wants it, it’s definitely dope. Such is the reason why so many vehicles piloted by Steve McQueen have crossed auction blocks over the years. Now we bring you something else McQueen once owned, and while it has zero wheels, it’s equally adept at making us salivate. This Rolex Submariner belonged to the actor until he gifted it to Loren Janes, his stuntman on films like Bullitt and The Getaway. An engraving on the caseback reads: “LOREN, THE BEST DAMN STUNTMAN IN THE WORLD. STEVE.” The legend of the watch doesn’t end there, however. This particular Rolex survived the Sand Fires of Los Angeles in 2016, and, while Rolex serviced the watch after those events, it still has some soot wedged the bracelet clasp and the caseback. The watch comes with a signed letter from the late Loren Janes, the book Steve McQueen: A Life in Pictures, and paperwork from Rolex that documents its restoration.
