If you’re a watch collector and a fan of Hayao Miyazaki films, the new Seiko Presage Studio Ghibli Castle In The Sky should be on your radar. The unique horological offering celebrates the animation of one of the most praised filmmakers by paying homage to the 1986 film of the same title. The watch gets a beautiful cream-colored fired enamel dial, elegant brown Breguet hands, and the main character’s (Sheeta) pendant logo above the 6. The same logo also shows up on the crown. The workhorse caliber 6R31 automatic movement is viewable through the transparent caseback where the “Laputa” flying castle is shown, along with a line from the film’s made-up Laputian language. It’s a classic timepiece with a niche angle, and only the true Ghibli cognoscenti will recognize its significance. The special watch goes on sale in July for $1,450.
