In the pantheon of well-known watches, Paul Newman’s Rolex Daytona has always stood above the crowd. Now, the watch Newman wore every day for 15 years has some numbers to back that up. Paul Newman’s Daytona sold for a whopping $17,752,500 (including buyer’s premium) at auction this past week in New York. That officially makes it the most expensive wristwatch of all time, surpassing a Patek Philippe 1518 in stainless steel. To put it in perspective, Dwyane Wade couldn’t afford it on one year’s salary. The anonymous winning bidder can always sell the watch should they need to purchase many new homes or 2,000 other Rolex watches.
