The Seiko 5 has been one of the go-to automatic watches for longer than most of us have been alive (60s, in case you were curious) for a number of reasons. It had high water resistance. It had Hardlex glass that was scratch-resistant. It had a 21 jewel automatic movement. Most importantly, it was affordable. It’s still affordable. It still performs well. The line as a whole has really withstood the test of time. All those things are why it’s the perfect starting point for Matthew Humphries Design (MHD) to make an excellent custom timepiece. Using skills he picked up as the design chief of Morgan Motor Company, Matthew personally handmakes each watch using high-quality components, like Seiko 5 movements and natural veg-tanned cowhide leather, to create limited edition pieces like the one you see here. If you want a truly unique experience, he’ll also customize your existing collection for you.
