IWC might lean toward pilot watch styles more often than not, but its most recent debut takes a decidedly earthbound angle. Pilot’s Watch Chronograph Edition “AMG” is the result of a collaboration between IWC and Mercedes-AMG, which makes more sense when you discover that IWC has issued a number of Mercedes-AMG watches and is actually the official timing partner for the Mercedes-AMG Formula 1 racing team. The dial is made from pure carbon fiber, which is also found in F1 car construction and in many street-legal AMG models. The case is made with tough and light grade 5 titanium, the dial is made with exposed carbon fiber, and the silver chronograph subdials mimic both aeronautical and automotive gauges. The watch is powered by the IWC 69385 caliber mechanical automatic movement with a 46-hour power reserve. Although there’s no Mercedes-AMG branding on the face, the watch gets a tinted sapphire crystal caseback with the AMG logo and an AMG-style car wheel rotor. Although it’s a special edition watch, it’s not a limited-production version. IWC is currently taking pre-orders on its site.
