The first season of True Detective was a masterpiece in character development, writing, and cinematography. The second season, while more believable, seemed to falter in many of those areas. Can Season 3, which hits HBO on January 13, help return the show to form? We’re not sure, but we do know that this new trailer has our hopes up. Mahershala Ali takes the lead in the story of a detective haunted by a case decades old. We get a serious look at the show with this trailer, as it starts to show off a bit of Carmen Ejogo’s character, Amelia Reardon.
