If you’ve seen The Hurt Locker or Zero Dark Thirty, you know that director Kathryn Bigelow can build suspense and develop tension with the best of them. The next time you will see those skills put on display is August 4, when her film Detroit hits theaters. The film stars John Boyega, John Krasinski, and Kaitlyn Dever and centers on the civil unrest in Detroit in the summer of 1967, after a police raid of an unlicensed bar. The anger erupted into one of our country’s deadliest riots, which lasted for the better part of a week. Based on this trailer and Bigelow’s track record, we can tell you this is a can’t miss.

Future heirlooms, small-but-significant stocking stuffers, and gear for getting out there (or staying in)—are all right here. There’s no music playing in the background though, so you’ll just have to hum Bing Crosby while you click around instead.
