3D printers have the potential to change a lot of industries. Spare parts can be whipped up in minutes. Solutions to minor problems can be printed, not just purchased at Home Depot. ICON wants to take the next leap with 3D printing and tackle one of the world’s most pressing issues—housing. ICON has created a way to 3D-print a 650-square-foot home in only 24 hours. For the 1.2 billion who don’t have adequate housing, it could be the first step toward a real solution. A home, which ICON hopes to price at $4,000, is made of cement and has a living room, bathroom, and bedroom. The company has partnered with New Story, a non-profit working to transform slums into habitable communities, to unveil the first of these potential game-changing homes. You can read more about the initiative at ICON’s site.
