Richard Wershe Jr., better known as “White Boy Rick,” became the youngest FBI informant ever when the agency tapped him to help when he was just 14. Then, three years later, when the FBI no longer needed him, he turned to selling drugs himself and eventually became a kingpin in Detroit. White Boy Rick is based on the story of Wershe Jr., and it stars Matthew McConaughey, Jennifer Jason Leigh, and Eddie Marsan. The first trailer gives a decent amount of the film away—as is the trend these days—but it is based on a true story, so we guess that’s not such a big deal. Our big takeaway from the trailer is, McConaughey looks like he’s back to 2013 McConaughey form, which means we’re more than a little excited.
