Motion designer Christian Stangl worked over the course of a year and a half with his brother, Wolfgang, a composer, to create LUNAR, the mind-blowing short film you absolutely need to dedicate the next 10ish minutes of your life to. Dedicated “to all the people who believe in peaceful exploration of our borders,” LUNAR tells the story of the Space Race post Sputnik and Yuri Gagarin by focusing on the Apollo project and everything those brave souls accomplished while away from our Pale Blue Dot. Using the Flickr Project Apollo Archive for stills and the original NASA Audio Collection for the sound, thousands of pieces of source material were compiled into what the author describes as an “animated collage” but we consider nothing short of a brilliant masterpiece. There’s something about the way the images are compiled into this short film with the masterful audio composition behind it that makes it feel like you’re actually there instead of hundreds of thousands of miles away.
